Courses from Educational Institutions Recognized by BRE

Educational Institutions Recognized by BRE

BRE requires you to complete certain educational courses to qualify for a Salesperson and Broker license. These courses can be completed from an educational institution that meets any of the following criteria:

  1. BRE Approved Institutions: The institution has had its courses approved by the California Real Estate Commissioner. Search BRE database of approved statutory/pre-license real estate courses.
  2. Institutions Accredited by WASC: The institution is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). Search WASC Directory of Schools.
  3. Institutions Accredited by US Department of Education: The institution is accredited by regional accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education. Search U.S. Department of Education Database of Accredited Postsecondary Institutions and Programs.
  4. Courses from California Community Colleges and University Programs: As part of their curriculum California State University (CSU), University of California (UC) system, and many of the California community colleges offer real estate courses that are recognized by BRE. Visit Community College Real Estate Education Center for information on real estate courses offered by community colleges in California. Contact the UC and CSU colleges directly to obtain information on the Real Estate courses offered by them.
  5. Courses from Foreign Universities: You may be able to use the courses completed from a foreign educational institution. Courses taken at foreign institutions must be evaluated by a BRE-approved Credentials Evaluation Service. Written evidence of the evaluation must be presented in a manner satisfactory to BRE. Refer to the BRE publication Examination Applicant Foreign Education Information (RE 223) for details.

Exemption from Educational Requirements for Members of State Bar

Members of CA State Bar

Members of CA State Bar are exempt from college level course requirements. To document the exemption, you will have to provide evidence of membership of the State Bar such as photocopy of both sides of a California State Bar membership card.
